Facts About What Your Handwriting Can Say About You to an Employer
The interview you conducted was terrific. The candidate has the right qualifications, is highly articulate and appears to fit into the client company’s corporate culture. But your reference checks only gave you a verification of employment dates as shown in the CV, and the job “tide”. You know you cannot make a decision based mainly on gut feelings and intuition. It is at times like these that you wish you had a reliable selection tool to round out the picture.
You may have heard colleagues talk about their success with handwriting analysis. Indeed, some highly qualified and experienced South African HR Professionals – all with a Masters Degree in Psychology - have this to say: “Whereas psychometric testing gives a picture of a person’s potential etc., and where personality questions may be answered according to what the person thinks you want to hear, handwriting analysis gives a picture of the person’s actual current personality and cannot be manipulated – perhaps explaining why it has been used in criminal courts for ages!” In the U.S.A. it is now even used as an aid to Jury selection.
Handwriting analysis has received much publicity in the past twenty years as an additional selection tool that is gaining acceptance in the corporate community, here in South Africa and throughout the world. Moreover, it has been found that additional information that it provides is extremely useful in decision-making when making a final choice on who to appoint, especially in KEY POSITIONS.
Human resource professionals regularly have a difficult time obtaining information about respective candidates. Often they cannot ask personal questions unrelated to the job, and only get limited, even frustrating, time consuming responses from references. The rights of the employee and must always be considered, but that is only part of their challenge.
Most companies in South Africa who use handwriting analysis, use it as an additional tool for the pre-employment screening of all levels of employees. Handwriting analysis cuts down on interviewing time for second and third interviews by helping the manager to focus questions more specifically. Furthermore, the analysis points towards questions that can be asked of previous employers.
A major headache is often encountered when there are a flood of applicants for a particular position, often filling the e-mail box to overflowing. However, handwriting analysis needs just as little as just ONE page of writing in ANY official language, and hundreds of applicants can very quickly and inexpensively be distilled down to just say, 10 people, without necessarily having to laboriously read each CV using what is called a “Quick Sort” mechanism. This is again, a groundbreaking approach.
Although companies primarily use handwriting analysis to help determine if the right person is matched to the right job, the technique has a variety of other very credible business applications. For example, Human resource professionals now often use handwriting analysis to:
1. Evaluate candidates for promotion, where personality nowadays plays a major role.
2. To determine their “fit” where they are being moved to another company branch or duty.
3. To assess their compatibility (or lack) with their new manager when they are transferred.
4. To determine the interaction (friction or not?) between members of a group or team.
5. Where the new position may involve considerable stress, whether they are likely to be able to cope with that challenge.
6. Whether they can, or indeed want to succeed at all. (believe it, some people are actually “scared” of success!)
7. Where they may just need some mentoring or coaching, and where it is indicated that they tend to procrastinate, fudge the facts or ignore the finer, important details of their jobs.
8. Determine the suitability in sales and marketing positions, and importantly, whether there is a strong MONEY motivation, which is critically important for success in this field.
Where the handwriting field is going
The handwriting analysis field is rapidly changing. Across the globe, more handwriting analysts are working in business than ever before. Many are involved with management development programs, life coaching and pre-employment testing. “Thinking” HR professionals and psychologists respect the wealth of information which can be gleaned from following this path.
Practitioners are coming to understand the importance of scientific studies and are not only becoming more familiar with the literature, but are interested in devising studies that meet the strict criteria of the scientific establishment. In the past most handwriting analysts were not acquainted with the psychometric techniques needed to validate employment predictors. But this is a rapidly changing. As far back as 1989, the annual Congress and Institute of the International Graphoanalysis Society began offering an introductory course in statistics. A number of Universities, the most noteworthy of which are Italy and Spain, which now offer the study of Graphology at degree level.
Latterly, the use of computers has added an exciting dimension to handwriting analysis, mainly because their use provides an accurate, unbiased benchmark for measuring the samples provided by clients. Although in its infancy, there is currently experimental work being undertaken by a Clinical Psychologist in Israel, which will lead to handwriting samples simply being scanned into a computer. Even more exciting is work with 3D Holographic techniques, again using computer technology. This has been primarily been used in the detection of forgeries up to now, but is being considered for applying to standard handwriting analysis.
Many Israelis see handwriting as true personality test: Graphology experts here say that up to 60% of Israeli companies use handwriting analysis to help identify unsuitable or untrustworthy job applicants. "Position Available" advertisements routinely request handwritten resumes.
In an interview, a spokesman for Bank Leumi, Israel's largest financial institution, seemed slightly embarrassed but confirmed that all potential employees must take a graphology test.
Throughout the world, handwriting analysis is an accepted criminal investigation tool. But its value as a mirror of personality is much more controversial. And in the United States, graphologists concede, their craft is often viewed as more fitting for a carnival sideshow than as serious psychological testing.
Academic institutions in the world that currently offer an accredited degree in handwriting analysis are:
? The University of Urbino, Italy: MA (Graphology)
? Emerson University College, Buenos Aires, Argentina: BA (Graphology)
? Autonomous University of Barcelona, Barcelona: Spain: MA (Graphology)
Handwriting can reveal tell-tale signs of deception, according to a study published in the November issue of the journal Applied Cognitive Psychology. To see whether people's handwriting differed when they were writing true or false statements, a team of researchers the from Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at Haifa University in Israel employed a complicated computer analysis program called the Computerized Penmanship Evaluation Tool (ComPET). They then had 34 subjects write true and false sentences on the tool's "digitizer," or electronic writing tablet, and measured all aspects of the penmanship—including the height and length of individual strokes, and the pressure applied while writing.
They found that, there were clear differences in all three of those measurements—average pressure applied, and length and height of individual strokes of the pen—when people were lying.
Today’s subject is about fire streams and the different types of fire streams.
A fire stream is defined in terms of the size of volume of water. A small fire stream is considered to be a volume of stream less than 40 gallons per minute.
Hand-line streams are those used when men are fighting fire. Hand-lines are usually 1-1/2 inch hose to 2- ½ inch hose. Streams supplied by 1-1/2 inch hose will have capacities to discharge 40–125 gallons per minute. Hoses that are 2-1/2 inch can discharge 125-300 gallons per minute. Nozzles that flow more than 300 gallons per minute are not recommended for hand-lines.
A master stream is a large volume of water in which more than 300 gallons per minute is discharged.
In the fire service, we have types of classifications of fire streams; they are solid, fog streams and broken streams. A broken fire stream is when a solid stream is broken up into fine drops of water for protecting exposed buildings. Other broken streams are produced by different types of nozzles such as foam nozzles, cellar nozzles, and directing two streams together in midair; reflecting a stream off a wall or by flat spoon-bill nozzles. Most of the time when a broken stream is used, it is to make a water curtain of protection. A water curtain forms the shape of a fan or curtain to protect and shield firefighters from a really hot fire or combustible materials. Broken fire streams are also used when fighting a basement fire or when fighting a fire in a partition. The next stream most fire fighters call a fog stream but it can also be called a spray stream. A fog stream is formed when a firefighter turns the nozzle tip to make the water being discharged form a cone shape. The word fog means 'condensed water vapor that is like a cloud'. We also use the term fog nozzle to describe the type nozzle we use to make a fog stream. Solid streams for the fire service require a specific nozzle to perform certain functions. A solid-stream nozzle is made to produce a compacted stream of water. This nozzle is designed to reach areas that cannot be reached by the standard fog nozzle. This solid-stream nozzle is made to discharge water further and higher than the fog nozzle.
When a fire engine arrives at the scene of a fire it is the Company Officer's job to choose the right hose with the right nozzle. It is also his job to decide what type of stream should be used in the fire attack. The Fire Captain has to make these split-second decisions quickly but also be mindful of himself and his crew.
As living costs continue to rise, more and more people have to consider rejoining the work force after retirement. Their financial plans to enjoy retirement may have taken a battering and it may become necessary to look for employment on either a casual or full time basis. An important factor that needs to be considered when returning to work after an absence is the quality of a resume or CV. The longer the break in employment, the potentially more difficult the task will become. Many older job seekers may never have used a CV or resume to gain previous employment. A well-crafted and well-designed CV can play an important role in finding employment after retirement.
How to write a high quality CV after retirement.
Compiling a good CV is vital and a resume needs to be concise and informative. A long break in employment can be seen in two ways. Many job seekers see it as a negative and they try to shy away from broaching the subject. Successful candidates will see this break as a positive thing and well play up all the extra things they have achieved when not in employment. Many employers will spot a gap in employment and they will be prompted to enquire as to the reasons for these gaps. A good, high quality CV will not only explain these gaps but will allow an ideal opportunity to provide evidence of new skills and interests.
When an individual returns to the job market after retirement they may well have years of experience in an industry or career. They, potentially, will have acquired a vast skill set. This may well help a candidate to stand out among younger, less experienced rivals. An employer will use a CV as an indication of the relevant experience of a job seeker.
A good quality CV needs to be concise and to deliver a message quickly. Often, employers quickly scan a CV before rejecting a candidate. A CV needs to stand out and portray a positive image about the attributes and skills the candidate has. A good CV will often prompt an invitation to an interview and it is during this interview a candidate is given the chance to sell themselves to the employer. A poor CV, often, means no interview.
The CV should always include an opening statement or summary about the candidate. The importance of this message cannot be overplayed. These few words can make all the difference as to whether the reader continues to scan a CV or rejects it. An individual may have all the necessary skills for the vacant position but unless the CV does its job, it will be meaningless.
Younger retirees can also highlight the fact that they had the financial resources to retire early. This may show an employer that they have more drive and vision than other candidates. Returning to work after retirement does not have to be seen as a negative issue. Many people wish to return to work on their terms. They may not need to return to work but simply wish to. An employer is seeking the best candidate for a position and will select the best match. Retirement can also allow room for up skilling or learning. This should also be included in the CV.
Before beginning a CV after retirement it is important to remember that it has to be of good quality, well written and concise. People return to work after retirement for several reasons. An employer will only be interested in the suitability of a candidate for a position. A good CV can provide a potential employee with the ideal opportunity to show that they have the skills needed for the job.

These days one does not stay employed in a certain career field all of their life. With various employment areas opening up--some shutting down or evolving into new areas of growth-- and changes being made due to the economy and after effects of a recession, many of us are on the move and starting over in brand new jobs.
With these kinds of changes it will require and force new employees and employers to be more flexible and more educated so that they can not only hold on to their jobs, but flourish and grow, according to the demands expected of them.
Being able to change and grow will be expected from all employees and there are tips that can help. For instance, when beginning a new job it helps to not put undue pressure on yourself. Give yourself at least 60 days or more before you feel comfortable in your new job. No one at your new job will expect you to be 100 percent right off the bat; so don't expect that much from yourself, either. Just do the very best that you can and when you have a question, ask!
If possible, look for a few areas where you can make your talents known relatively soon. Making your talents known early will give you credibility and a willingness to be a part of the team. However, before looking for areas where you can score big, be sure that you know what areas your company considers "big" and "doable" for a beginning employee.
Then, think of the areas where you can grow and improve. With any job it helps to build on the skills that you have and one of the best ways to do this is do a SWAT analysis on yourself. Look at the plus factors in your job skills and personality and the minus factors. Then, find ways in which you can increase the plus factors and lessen the minus factors. By developing friendships in the workplace, you may find some who have the same goals and skills and by working with such a person, you can help yourself as well as another in enhancing your skills and completing your goals.
It is also important to learn the culture of your new job. This will take time and effort but it will pay off handsomely because office politics and getting along with others takes time. By observing and then interacting with others, you will soon find your place in your new environment. Cultures in the work environment are similar to the cultures in individual families. In both areas it takes time and flexibility to fit in but when that is accomplished, one's work, skills and adapting are much more productive and fulfilling.
A few more tips might help with your new job such as always ask for help when you need it, don't take anything personal from anyone and always understand--from day one--why you were hired and what the company's expectations and goals are for you.
One more tip that might help is shortly after beginning your new job begin observng and then writing down a list of "who's who." As you observe your co-workers and managers, write down who does what, what skills they have and who might be your allies. This will help you as the days and weeks go by. It is always helpful to know about the plus and minus factors of those working with you.

It would take an encyclopedia to begin to to do justice to the full scope of Leonardo's accomplishments. We can get a glimpse of his most notable achievements through categories of art, invention, military engineering and science.
Leonardo the artist transformed the direction of art. He was the first Western artist to make landscape the prime subject of painting. He pioneered the use of oil paints and the application of perspective, chiaroscuro, contrapposto, sfumato, and many other innovative and influential methods. Leonardo's Mona Lisa and The Last Supper are recognized universally as two of the greatest paintings ever produced. They are certainly the most famous. Leonardo also created other wonderful paintings including The Virgin of the Rocks, The Madonna and Child with St. Anne, The Adoration of the Magi, St. John the Baptist, and his portrait of Ginevra de' Benci that hangs in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Leonardo was also renowned as an architect and a sculptor. Most of his architectural work focused on general principles of design, although he did consult on a number of practical projects including cathedrals in Milan and Pavia, and the French king's chateau at Blois. While he is believed to have contributed to a number of sculptures, scholars agree that the only existing sculptures definitely touched by the maestro's hand are three bronze on the north door of the Baptisery in Florence. The Saint John the Baptist Preaching to a Levite and a Pharisee was created in collaboration with the sculptor Rustici.
Leonardo the inventor made plans for a flying machine, a helicopter, a parachute, and many other marvels including the extendable ladder used by fire departments today, the three-speed gear shift, a machine for cutting threads in screws, the bicycle, an adjustable monkey wrench a snorkel, hydraulics jacks, the world's first revolving stage, locks for a canal system, a horizontal waterwheel, folding furniture, an olive press, a number of automated musical instruments, a water-powered alarm clock, a therapeutic armchair, and a crane for clearing ditches.
As a military engineer Da Vinci made plans for weapons that would be deployed four hundred years later, including the armored tank, machine gun, mortar, guided missile, and submarine. As far as we know, however, nothing he designed was ever used to injure anyone during his lifetime. A man of peace, he referred to was as "pazzia bestilissima-beastly madness," and found bloodshed "infinitely atrocious." His instruments of war were designed "to preserve the chief gift of nature, which is liberty," he wrote. At times he shared them reluctantly, accompanying one design with a written glimpse of his ambivalence: " I do not wish to divulge or publish this because of the evil nature of men."
Leonardo the scientist is the subject of considerable scholarly debate. Some scholars suggest that if Leonardo had organied his scientific thoughts and published them, he would have had a massive influence on the development of science. Others argue that he was so far ahead of his time that his work would not have been appreciated even if it was formulated in comprehensible general theories. While Leonardo's science may best be appreciated for its intrinsic value as an expression of his quest for truth, most scholars agree that he can be credited with significant contributions to several disciplines:
- He pioneered the discipline of modern comparative anatomy.
- He was the first to draw parts of the body in cross section.
- He was the first to make casts of the brain and the ventricles of the heart
- He pioneered modern botanical science.
- He noted that the age of a tree corresponds to the number of rings in its cross section.
- He was the first to describe the system of leaf arrangement if plants.
Leonardo's investigations led him to anticipate many great scientific discoveries including breakthroughs by Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, and Darwin.
40 years before Copernicus - Da Vinci noted, in large letters for emphasis, "IL SOLE NO SI MUOVE," "The sun does not move." He added, "The earth is not in the center of the circle of the sun, nor in the center of the universe."
60 years before Galileo- He suggested that "a large magnifying lens" should be employed to study the surface of the moon and other heavenly bodies.
200 years before Newton- Anticipating the theory of gravitation, Leonardo wrote "Every weight tends to fall towards the center by the shortest possible way." And elsewhere he added that because "every heavy substance presses downward, and cannot be upheld perpetually, the whole earth must become spherical."
400 years before Darwin- He placed man in the same broad category as monkeys and apes and wrote, "Man does not vary from the animals except in what is accidental."
More valuable than any of his specific scientific achievements, Leonardo's approach to knowledge set the stage for modern scientific thinking.
Competitive higher-education, strenuous job or lack of interest in a particular course will make individuals want to redirect their course of study and work, and look for other job opportunities. Getting a job after MBBS degree is harder these days, and if you are able to get one, the pay will not always be catchy. Change in arena of work after an MBBS degree is a huge decision to make because of the strenuous training undergone in the course and the educational expenses incurred. Even though a decision had been made by the person, familial support in this matter will be controversial in an Indian setting. But individual satisfaction is primary to produce quality work that is applaudable.
Therefore, I would like to list further chances of practice after an MBBS degree. A large scope of employment opportunities is open with securing various other educational degrees. Shifting the profession can be done with further branches of studies.
The course most in demand now among the medical professionals after an MBBS degree or other medical courses is MBA in Hospital Management, also known as Hospital Administration. Both post graduate diploma and degree certifications are available for this course. Diploma is a one-year course and degree is two-years. Online and distant education is also possible in this field. This course enables one to hold positions such as Hospital Manager or Administrator. The individual can also work as a consultant in both medical and administrative matters in healthcare related agencies as well. It has currently become an esteemed course in getting managerial posts in clinical or hospital setting. In India one of the top institutions with MBA in Hospital Management is Symbiosis, Pune.
For those who are interested in legal aspects, degree in Medical Law and Ethics will be ideal one. The course deals with the relationship of healthcare providers and the clients, the healthcare institution and the clients, and laws which safeguard the interests of the clients and the healthcare providers. With a degree in law, an MBBS holder will be most apt to work alongside with healthcare institutions and voluntary health agencies, catering legal services for them. It is a well-esteemed job, and a well paid one too, and institutions usually have a team of legal advice providers to look after their legal matters. A two-year course of LL.M or a one-year diploma course will get you this post. The National Law School India University (NLSIU) is an autonomous institution which provides top-class law education and training in India.
Master in Social Works (MSW) is another branch which can be of interest to those with social work inclination. Like most master degrees in India, it is a two-year course, which will enable working with volu ntary health organizations, NGOs, and with welfare schemes. This is a fulfilling job which provides work satisfaction. The areas of specialization include education, health, environmental protection, women and child welfare, tribal welfare and so on. There are opportunities to work abroad and even start one’s own NGO. The pay scale is also favorable. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is ranked high in education in social works.
Medical Transcription as well-known nowadays, provides a lucrative job opportunity as a career, or to be taken as an extra source of income along with other jobs. There are a number of good MT training institutes all over India. One can get either onsite training of 1 year, which will give you basics in English language, medical subjects, course in typing, or extensive training for the course in particular. Opportunities are available to get online home training too. All that is needed is good comprehension in English language, listening skills, typing speed, and a computer and a headphone. Job opportunities are based on the accuracy with which you are able to produce the files. The pay is per lines typed, which will increase with the working experience.
Of course, there are many more opportunities out there waiting for individuals, all that is needed is patience to search for it and do the necessary to get the job. World is an open place, and globalization has made it a Village. So if you are waiting for a job opportunity after an MBBS degree, all one needs is to go out there and grab the awaiting opportunities.
Asking for vacation pay does not have to be a puzzling experience. The amount of money earned is an easy question to answer.
Work and take the extra pay after calculating the amount owed.
1. Measure the qualifying period. Write down the first work day vacation hours were earned and the last work day. Count up the number of full vacation pay earning periods in this period. Employers choose the vacation pay earning period. A day, a week, a month, and a pay period are all used. Ask the boss, or the worker manager, the period the company uses.
Measure. Date range. Count periods in date range.
E. g. An employer that gives vacation time day by day. Worker worked from January 1 to December 31. During that time, 160 days were worked.
2. Figure out the the number of earned vacation hours not taken. Use the percentage of the hours earned during a year to find the total hours owed for all the work done up to the last day. Divide the days worked by the total days in the year to find percentage of hours earned. Multiply this percentage times the total hours given in a year.
Then, subtract the hours used. Paid vacation days used for taking a vacation and earlier pay outs on hours both come out of the total hours. The result is the hours owed.
Formula. Percentage of hour earned in a year = days in worked year/365 days.
Hours owed = (percentage of hours earned in a year x total vacation hours given in a year) - vacation hours used.
E.g. Employer gives one week vacation time in a year. Worker has used 2 days vacation. Percentage of hours earned in a year = 365 days/365 days = 100 percent. Hours owed = (1.0 x 40 hours) - 16 hours used = 24 hours.
3. Multiply the hours owed by the daily rate of pay paid for the typical day at work. Californians all get their typical pay rate for their vacation pay rate, at least.
Multiplication. Vacation pay = vacation hours owed x daily pay rate.
E. g. Worker gets paid a $14.00 an hour daily pay rate. Vacation pay = 24 hours x $14.00/hr = $336.
Pro Rata Calculation Steps.
When asking for vacation pay in the middle of the year, or at the end of the job, use the pro rata calculation. In California, employers must use a daily pro rata calculation when workers end employment and vacation pay is owed.
1. Calculate the pro rata pay rate for daily vacation pay earnings. Multiply the work hours in the year times the vacation pay rate. This is the total vacation pay available in the year.
Typically, the worker's regular rate of pay is used for the vacation pay rate. Workers ending their employment use their final rate of pay. The California law says this rate is used.
Then, divide the total available vacation pay by the number of hours in the period the employer uses for vacation pay, such as a week. The result is the vacation pay earned in one work period.
Formula. Total available vacation pay = vacation hours given in a year x vacation pay rate.
Vacation pay earned in a work period = total available vacation pay / number of employer's vacation pay periods in the year.
Pro rata vacation pay rate = vacation pay earned in a work period.
E.g. Employer gives two weeks vacation pay in year and uses a week for the vacation pay period. The worker earns $17 an hour and asks for a vacation pay pay out at end of the 7th month. There are 2,080 work hours in the year.
Total available vacation pay = 80 x $17/hr = $1,360.
Vacation pay earned in a work period = $1,360/52 weeks = $26.15 a week.
Pro rata vacation pay rate = $26.15/wk.
2. Count the vacation pay periods worked in the year. Do not count any period that the vacation hours earned have already been taken or paid out.
E. g. Employer uses a week for the vacation pay period. Worker works seven months. Worker worked and earned vacation pay a total of 30 weeks. No vacation time has been used. No vacation hours have been paid out.
3. Multiply the pay periods worked by the pro rata vacation pay rate.
Multiplication. Vacation pay = pay period worked x pro rata vacation pay rate.
E. g. Vacation pay = 30 weeks worked x $26.15 = $784.50.
Note on Vacation Pay Caps.
California employers can put a reasonable cap on the total vacation hours that a worker can earn, such as 200 hours. If the vacation hours that have built up are above the cap, use the cap for the number of hours worked that earn vacation pay.
Workers that earn vacation pay during periods the employer chooses that want to use the pro rata calculation do not use any periods after the period the worker reached the cap limit in built up vacation hours. The regular rate of pay (or the final rate of pay) x the cap hours is the highest vacation pay that can be earned. Any pro rata calculation above this amount is reduced to the capped vacation pay earnings.
Be careful to calculate the exact amount. An error might get the boss into trouble with the State of California for a vacation pay violation.

Making the choice to leave a job may prove to be one of the most difficult decisions a person occasionally has to tackle. Change is never easy. And generally, when individuals do decide to leave their job, they are aiming to make a positive change, a life-changing positive change.
Opting for a change may be of varying personal reasons. It can connote that you have found a company that provides greener pastures and want to grab that opportunity; or it can also be an attempt to release yourself from an inconsiderate boss or simply trying to get out of a bad situation with the hopes of finding those verdant fields elsewhere.
If you are in the process of deciding whether to tender that resignation letter, I reckon that it is a good idea to sit, ponder, and evaluate the reasons why. A lot of people who become disappointed with the management rashly move to resign, simply to regret doing such. When considering whether or not to end the madness and quit your job, you want to be careful not to be a part of these statistics and possibly surrender a good career because of a capricious decision.
But do not get me wrong, I am not promoting that leaving a job is such a bad idea. Actually, there are a lot of good reasons why you should let go of your current post. When people have big changes in their lives, usually it entails leaving their current job. And more often than not, they are more than willing to leave their jobs to focus their attention to more important issues.
Here are some of the reasons why individuals decide to tender their resignation:
Raising children. A working parent knows how hard it is to juggle office duties and house responsibilities. A lot of parents are economically coerced to work. With that said, those who are on a better financial footing opts to leave their office work to concentrate on rearing their children. These are your lucky few who are in a position of choice.
Family obligations. This is a broad subject. Family obligations may come in different shapes and forms. It may signify a mother staying at home with her kids or a daughter who has to take care of her aging parents or a niece helping her sick relative to get back on her feet. Many individuals prefer to leave their chosen profession to address family matters. This can even be the primary reason why people leave their jobs. This raises the need for a flexible job. And to be honest, businesses and establishments that do not offer such usually lose employees.
Better offer. Do I need to expound on this topic? Who wouldn’t want a higher salary? Who wouldn’t want a prominent position? Who wouldn’t want a better opportunity? Enough said.
Changing locations. At some point in our lives, we need change, be it drastic or otherwise. And sometimes, that drastic change deems changing of scenery, changing of location. Some view it as a brand new start: new location, new house and a new job. Or it may also mean that the spouse needs to relocate because of his job. In this scenario, resignation is but needed.
Education. This is another common reason for one to quit his job. People go back to college due to different reasons, to pursue a lifelong dream (now that he is financially capable) or to get promoted (as a higher degree may be deemed necessary due to company requirements).
Other times, employees leave their current jobs simply to maintain their sanity or regain their health. There will always be cases that an escape from the corporate world (even if it meant going back to school) is a welcomed alternative.
Toxic working environment. If you dread the thought of going to work, feel like you are dragging yourself off to bed forcing your body to go to work, then you might be in a toxic working environment. Not to mention the feeling of getting sick almost everyday. You have tons of paper work. You keep trying your best though it seems that the only way to get this pile of paper off your desk is to create a bonfire. And your boss keeps on bringing in more paper work. And he has the nerve to leave the office earlier than you. In here, leaving your job is the only way to salvage what was left of your sanity.
Not challenging enough. A boss who micro-manage strips away any kind of challenge making work mundane and boring for an employee. Stats show that individuals who exercise a level of responsibility are indeed happier and satisfied.
Financial reasons. Being underpaid is never good. Though being underpaid with minimum benefits is worse. People look for greener pastures to build a strong foundation for their future.
Too much work to the point of being taken advantage of. It really stinks to be over worked, underpaid, and not appreciated. Employees who are treated in this manner have to resign.
There are a lot more reasons why an individual may call it ‘quits’. Oftentimes, it is triggered by an outside obligation. But there are also intrinsic reasons that are attached to the job itself. Whichever way, tendering a resignation letter is a major decision that needs a lot of consideration.
There are many different types of transportation businesses. To put it crudely, these business are organized on relatively simple concepts: who or what you are transporting, and how much of it. Almost all businesses (but most particularly the larger ones) require some sort of transportation business to support them, and this sort of support is known as logistics.
Logistics formally began with the military. It was necessary in World War I, but it was essential to have a formal logistics command structure in World War II, because the materiel demands were so high. In the American Army, this was referred to as S.O.S., or Services of Supply. Together, these soldiers fed, clothed and supported millions of American soldiers throughout the conflict.
Today, logistics services are fairly simple to understand. Each type of logistical transportation business is a specialist in a certain field. Bekins, for example, is a trucking giant. CSX, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific transport using rail. Rail is most useful for transporting large quantities of raw materials such as rock, coal, sulfur, mulch, and whatever else is sold in quantity. The Army also often relies on rail to transport things like tanks in CONUS (Continental United States) that would otherwise destroy civilian roads. Recently at the CSX Augusta yard, I saw a power generator turbine being moved on a rail car that would have been impossible both in size and weight to transport by truck. Most trucks can only legally move 80,000 pounds, but many rail cars have a maximum weight tolerance of 200,000 pounds! This means that trains with 2 to 4 engines are pulling millions and tens of millions of pounds.
Trucking transportation businesses are better for moving loads to specific locations accessible by road. Rail transport is 2 or 3 times more efficient than trucking, but trucking transportation has a niche because not every business needs mass-scale solutions to their problems. WalMart, for example, turns over more inventory than just about anybody, but it has little use for rail outside of its major distribution. This is because it is shipping millions of different products and not much in the way of raw material. Also, building and maintaining rail is very expensive because of the federal mandates regarding rail passage, and it is much cheaper to receive trucks.
Shipping businesses are a type of transportation business as well. Services like U.S.P.S., U.P.S., D.H.L., and FedEx all receive, send, and deliver mailable packages with their services. In the loose definition of transportation of something from one location to another, taxi drivers are another type of transportation business.
